How to install RAD Studio 12.1 Athens

We have noticed that some of you are having a few problems installing RAD Studio 12.1 Athens. In this blog post we would like to give you some important hints and tips on how to install it successfully. Let’s go!

The installation is carried out in three steps.

Step 1: Uninstall the previous version of RAD Studio 12

Once you double-clicked the installer executable and selected your language the installer comes up with the following window:

It is absolutely necessary to select “No” here. The reason is that if you select “Yes”, all settings, including those you want to keep, will be deleted.

After pressing “Uninstall” wait a while…

… until the installer tells you that RAD Studio 12 has been deleted from your computer successfully.

Step 2: Rough installation of RAD Studio 12.1

You are now asked wether you want to use an existing license or enter a new license. After selecting the desired option press “Install”.

If you have installed a wizard, as in the case FMXLinux, the setup comes up with an error message.

But don’t worry. Just confirm this message and press “OK”.

Step 3: Fine-tuning of the installation of RAD Studio 12.1

With the next window you will be asked to select things like the Languages you want to install, Target Platforms, Language Packs and IDE Extras.  You can also select some technologies, such as DUnit tests and Interbase.

Once this has been done, press “Install” and the installer starts to run. This takes a while and gives you enough time to get yourself a coffee or two.

And then it’s almost done. The installation has been successfully completed.

Now close this window and start RAD Studio 12 from the toolbar. You will see again the error message that came up in Step 2.

Press “OK” and RAD Studio 12.1 will start anyway.

Now click on Tools/GetIt Package Manager and install the package that is missing (in this case it is FMXLinux).

Once this has been done a restart is required. Your new RAD Studio 12.1 should now start perfectly without any errors.

Have fun with RAD Studio 12.1 Athens!

We’re back!

After two years of rest we are finally back!

A lot has changed in the meantime. My sons Leon and Elias have joined the team and due to their young age they are providing a breath of fresh air and come up with a lot of new ideas. Nevertheless, we remain true to our favorite programming language and want to show you that Delphi has great potential to reconcile the old with the new world. Take a look at our new website. It was built entirely with Delphi and TMS WEB Core and Elias designed it with HTML and CSS. Isn’t that great? Would you have thought that you could do that with Delphi?

If you are curious about what else you can do with Delphi, then stay tuned…

BTW, Leon also runs a YouTube channel on which he publishes videos about Delphi. They are all in German, but if you like them, we would be very happy about a thumbs up or a subscription.

Platform Icons in Alexandria 11.1

With the brand new version Alexandria 11. 1 of RAD Studio Embarcadero introduced icons for the platform in the so called project gallery.

Since Alexandria 11.1 supports High DPI the platforms icons fit to the current resolution of the screen. As you can imagine the TMS Web Core IDE plugin adjusts the platform icon so that it fits to the web platform.

Isn’t this awesome? 🙂

Alexandria 11.1

I am happy to say that Delphi Alexandria 11.1 has been released shortly. After having tested 11.1 for a couple of weeks I can confirm that the support for the new Apple M1 has been improved. Another great thing is that working under HighDPI now runs simply awesome. Well done, Embarcadero!

SynEdit

I am happy to announce that pyscripter has released a new version of SynEdit. My small contribution is that I made the packages compilable with the C++ Builder.

Many thanks Kiriakos for all your hard work!

AsyncPro

Today I fixed another issue in AsyncPro. As I explained in one of my previous posts, it is a very ancient library and should not be used in new programs.

VirtualTreeView

Today I merged the TurboPack version of the VirtualTreeView with the so called JAM version. The JAM version is the one that hast the most commits and is well maintained.

The VirtualTreeView is known as a very fast component and is used inside the RAD Studio IDE itself.
